There are so many bible verses that discuss the way a person should eat and how we should treat our bodies. The one that often stands out to me is this- “So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.” -(1 Corinthians 10:31). Depending on what book you read, or which nutritionist you talk to, there will be differing opinions on how to eat right or how to lose weight, etc. Before I became a teacher, I was a public health educator at our local health department. There, I taught a free 8-week weight loss program at different sites throughout our county. I also taught an 8-week session at our church, applying biblical truths to the weight loss information I already had. As an active but overweight child, I learned that healthy eating doesn’t always result in healthy weight. Weight loss, unless there is a medical issue, always results when a person consumes less calories than expended. Therefore, eat less, exercise more, while keeping everything in moderation, is really the key to weight loss. In addition, just like cars need fuel, a battery, a transmission, oil, etc., to run efficiently, we need the six essential nutrients to run efficiently. Therefore, keeping that in mind, make sure to get plenty of fruits and vegetables, low fat dairy, healthy fats and low fat proteins, along with limiting sweets and junk/processed foods.
